Life, without education… what a darn shame!

“The life of an uneducated man is as useless as the tail of a dog, which neither covers its rear end, nor protects it from the bites of insects.” ~Chanakya

As a life-long learner, I seize every educational opportunity presented to me, and go out of my way to find those that aren’t presented, and then lobby for them.  To me, it’s a crying shame to see that every year, our educational budgets always have plenty of money left in them.  Why wouldn’t a staff member take advantage of our education contribution and JUMP to improve themselves?  It boggles the mind!

Maybe it’s simple laziness, but maybe (probably) they’re not all getting the support and encouragement to go out and find a class that will help them improve their skills.  Do each of your direct reports have a component of their performance review that requires an off-site educational class or workshop?  All of my direct reports do, and I have one in mine, too, a few are even going back to college.

Speaking of a tail protecting from the bites of insects…
