“Do not worry if you have built your castles in the air. They are where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” ~Henry David Thoreau
Worry is a good topic for today, as I’ve had conversations with several worried employees, since we just announced one of the greatest mergers in the history of our industry!!! With every merger, there is some pain, worry, and anxiety with those to whom the news is new, or who don’t have a clear path ahead of them. What I’m asking of you, my managers , directors and VP’s (as well as you, dear reader, if you’re ever in this situation) is to do your best to put a good face on the merger, and pull in the same positive direction.
I’m not even asking you to “pretend” that it’s a good idea. We really are building that “castle in the air”. We’re going to be one of the greatest counseling organizations in the history of the world. Yes, we’ll be busy building foundations. We won’t be right 100% of the time, and we’ll learn from our mistakes (mistakes are just experience waiting to happen, right?). We’ll accidentally step on each other’s toes, and experience some cultural challenges, but that’s all foundation. That being said, I’m thanking you all in advance for pulling in the same direction that I am – UP. This is going to be something we all look back on in 2015 and say “wow… look what we built!”
And for the daily, almost-always-tenuous tie-in to the cartoon: Speaking of worry…
