Never give up on a drama free workplace

“If you really believe in what you’re doing, work hard, take nothing personally, and if something blocks one route, find another.  Never give up.” ~Laurie Notaro

Let’s say you’re working on a revolutionary new business idea.  It’s going to be the next big thing, and make you a superstar in your organization.  Don’t take it personally if you hit snags.  Compliance or legal might tell you that you can’t do it THAT WAY.  Customer surveys might tell you that the layman won’t pay for it THAT WAY.  Programmers might tell you that the data tables won’t work THAT WAY.  None of those people are blocking your route because they don’t like you.  They’re stating facts.  I’ve seen more drama in the workplace come about from people reading tone into another person’s innocent request, or imagining negative motives of someone who has none.  Strive for a drama-free workplace.

Keep trying, and try to do it ANOTHER WAY.  Ask those people WHY it can’t be done that way.  Keep asking why until you get to the crux of the matter, and then figure out a way around the crux.  It might be as simple as changing some verbiage, changing the pricing model, or laying out the data relationships differently.  There are several ways to skin a cat, and what you end up with in all of them is, you guessed it, a skinned cat.  No offense to you cat lovers – I didn’t make up the saying.  Find the RIGHT WAY to overcome those obstacles, and you can still be the superstar.

Speaking of block…
