The optimistic leadership face

10 06 2014

“Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push.  A smile.  A world of optimism and hope.  A ‘you can do it’ when things are tough.” ~Richard M. DeVos

Yesterday I briefly mentioned your “leadership face”.  While being genuine is an important part of leadership that helps you to connect with your team, there are times when you need to put on a mask.

When things blow up, and people are on that razors edge between panic and buckling down to get the job done through the crisis, they need to look at you, and see the resolve in your face.  You’ve got to walk the floor, tell people that it will be OK, and lead them towards a resolution.  If you make the mistake of panicking and running away, you can be certain that they’ll be following you then.  That’s not the type of leadership I’m talking about.

Speaking of optimism…
