Write your legacy in LARGE FONT

“Life, like poker, has an element of risk.  It shouldn’t be avoided. It should be faced.” ~ Edward Norton

My company lost one of our board members over the weekend to sudden illness.  I spent the Jan. 21st board meeting sitting next to him, and during breaks, he regaled me with stories of the most amazing cruise that he and his wife recently returned from.  He urged me to take my wife on that cruise, explaining that cruising the rivers and seeing the great cities of Europe is something that everyone should do at least once in their lives.  He lived an epic life, making the most out of every interaction that I’ve seen him in (board meetings, committee meetings, dinners, chats in the hallway, etc.).  He’s probably the greatest board member I’ve ever had the privilege of working with, even though (more likely because) he also asked the toughest questions, too.

Leaders, learn from Leaders like him, and Carpe Diem, or as I like to say, Carpe Jugulum – Seize every day by throat and wring as much life as you can out of it.  Treat every project as if it’s the one that’s going to make or break the company.  Pour your energy into developing your team into the best team it can be.  Be nice when you don’t have to, do the good deed, teach the good lesson, ask the hard questions, but most of all… love as much as you can when you go home.  Life’s short so spend every day writing your own legacy in the LARGEST FONT POSSIBLE.

Speaking of element…
