To Please, but not Too Please

23 02 2016

“There’s something very addictive about people pleasing.  It’s a thought pattern and a habit that feels really, really good until it becomes desperate.” ~ Anne Hathaway

There is a certain joy that one receives by pleasing others.  It’s one of the cheapest, most pure forms of satisfaction out there.  Seeing someone smile back at you, and offering a “Thank You” can make just about anyone’s day.

Leaders, enjoy that feeling, and do what you can to make your team members and other co-workers happy.  But don’t overdo it, or you’ll be walked on.  Leaders who can’t say no, and instead give that tough love when it’s warranted won’t be successful.  They’ll be trod upon until flat. Find your own balance, but make sure that there’s a good measure of pleasure in there.

Speaking of desperate…
