Listening for the sound of opportunity

That’s a shout out to our marketing team, who work hard to get our pitch in front of consumers, wherever they are online.  Everyone is a closet marketer, but you folks do so much, so well, with so little.  Keep up the good work!

As leaders, especially those with other leaders working for them, we have very small windows in which to make an impact on the front-line staff.  It might be walking by someone who is complaining to a co-worker about a slow PC, or hearing some conversation in the lunch room identifying an issue with some benefit.  Don’t let these opportunities go.  Create a way into the conversation, and learn more about the problem.  If an employee cares enough to complain about something, there are probably many others silently griping about the same problem.  Our jobs, as leaders, is to do what we can to make it easier for that front line to deliver service efficiently and effectively. Keep your ear to the ground, for you might just hear the sound of opportunity!
