Breaking a metaphorical sweat.

“Success is getting and achieving what you want.  Happiness is wanting and being content with what you get.” ~ Bernard Meltzer

Based on this quote, I guess the goal should be to set attainable, but satisfying “wants”.  I call these “stretch goals”.  Then, I must work hard to achieve them.  Breaking a sweat, metaphorically, to achieve a goal.  In that way, I can get both success, and happiness.

Leaders, remember this when you are setting goals for your team.  They should be stretch, but makeable.  If you ask them to deliver something that is impossible, then they will not be successful, and neither of you will be happy.  Then, as they’re working toward that goal, ask them if they have the resources to achieve the goal.  If you set the goal, and then don’t give them the resources they need to accomplish it, then that’s on you, leader.

Speaking of being content …
