The unattractive Uncle X

“The conversational overachiever is someone whose grasp exceeds his reach.  This is possible, but not attractive.” ~ Fran Lebowitz

We’ve all got that loquacious Uncle, or other family member who spouts off at gatherings, mostly being wrong, sometimes being boring, and otherwise being offensive.  It seems like this person makes words simply to fill the dead air with nonsense.  They’re the person that you have to invite to certain family gatherings, and everyone goes “oh no, not Uncle X”.

Leaders, learn the lessons from the family gatherings, and spend more time listening.  When you have a cogent point to make, be right, be assertive in delivering it, and be brief.  IF you’re guessing, make sure that your audience knows that it’s a guess, or an opinion.  Speaking otherwise can be “quite unattractive”.

Speaking of overachiever…
