The perils of inaction

“Politics is the art of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable.” ~ John Galbraith

Because I absolutely stay away from both religion and politics in these daily comics, I won’t share my thoughts on which of the debaters last night was which of the 2 above.  Let’s just say that the comic pulled forth a timely quote from the internet.  How does this tie to leadership?  First, we will be picking a leader to the country soon.  Gather all your data, and exercise your right to vote, please.  I don’t care who you vote for, but if you don’t vote, you don’t get the right to gripe about the next president.

In a broader leadership sense, sometimes we do have to choose between 2 less-than-palatable choices.  Ideally, a great leader will come up with an outside-the-box solution that is neither disastrous, nor unpalatable.  However, just like not voting, not making a choice when one needs to be made is a cardinal leadership sin.  Doing nothing, when action is required, is a sure way to be wrong, leaders.  So, examine the choices, consider the pro’s & con’s, and move on with your choice.

Speaking of disastrous…
